O’Sullivan, Ann Jackson of Needham and Chatham, resident of Wellesley for more than fifty years, died on February 19, 2019 due to complications of a benign brain tumor. She was 83.
Born in New York City, Ann grew up in Scarsdale, N.Y. A graduate of Wellesley College in 1957, she later served for five years as Class President, and for over a decade as the College’s Director of Media Relations. She had previously been Director of Public Relations at Regis College and, prior to raising a family, a copywriter at Benton and Bowles Advertising in New York and Dickie-Raymond in Boston.
She served on the Board of Directors for Women in Communications, the Publicity Club of New England, the Diabetes and Arthritis Foundation, Tau Beta Beta, the Wellesley Chamber of Commerce and the Wellesley Service League. She was Communications Chair for several conferences run by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and for various charitable organizations.
Active in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Wellesley, she had been a member of its Vestry, a graduate of the EFM (Education for Ministry) Program, a pastoral care visitor and lay reader.
Ann always had an entertaining story to share, loved reading, sitting outside on the Cape lakeside deck, or planning her next international trip. She was creative and particularly known for her handmade holiday cards and distinctive handwriting.
She is predeceased by her husband of almost 42 years, Dr. John B. O’Sullivan, and is survived by a daughter Sandra of Arlington, sons Kevin of Marlborough, Barry (Katie) of West Harwich and Liam (Susan) of Holliston, as well as a brother, Robert Jackson of Williamsburg, VA. She is fondly remembered by a former daughter-in-law (Kathy) and seven grandchildren (Sean, Aubre, Aidan, Michael, Andrew, Erin and Summer).
A service of celebration for the life of Ann Jackson O’Sullivan will be held on Saturday, March 2 at 12:30 pm at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 79 Denton Road, Wellesley. Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 pm the previous evening at George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington Street, Wellesley. Burial will be private.
Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to St. Andrew’s Church in Wellesley, The American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
