James R. "Jim" Cartier

CHICOPEE ~ James R. “Jim” Cartier, 60, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. He passed into Eternal Life at his mother’s home in Chicopee surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke, a beloved son of Teresa “Terry” (Lynch) Cartier of Chicopee and the late Richard M. Cartier. He graduated from Chicopee Comprehensive High School in 1976 where he played football as a tight end and wide receiver and was named an All-Western Mass Offensive Player. He had lived in Chicopee before moving to Ludlow in 1999. He later returned to Chicopee in 2016. He was employed as a tool designer at Smith and Wesson in Springfield and had previously worked at American Saw, now Rubbermaid Newell, in East Longmeadow. During his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing and target shooting. He was a member of the Ludlow Fish and Game Club. He had many wonderful memories golfing with his buddies whether locally or on their many golf vacations. In November of 2011, he was proud to have made a hole-in-one on the 17th hole of the Orchards Golf Club in Hadley. In September of 2016, he was honored to be inducted into the Chicopee Athletics Hall of Fame for his high school football contributions. Above all, Jim loved spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his beloved mother, he also leaves his loving sister, Jackie Grubb and her husband, Tony, of Odenton MD; his loving brother, Michael J. Cartier and his wife, Melissa, of Chicopee; his many cherished nephews and nieces; his cherished grand nephew, “Big A”; and his many dear friends and extended members of the Cartier and Lynch families. He will also be deeply missed by his faithful canine companion, his Australian Shepherd, Casey. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at a later date. There are no visiting hours. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Mutt Rescue of Massachusetts, 102 Grove Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. For more details, please visit:
