Daniel J. Coyle, age 95, of Mansfield, formerly of Dedham passed away peacefully on Monday, January 21, 2019 at his daughter’s home in Wareham. He was the beloved husband of the late Lucille R. (Bernardo) Coyle, to whom he was wed for over 66 years at the time of her death on September 5, 2014.

Born in in Randolph, MA on November 15, 1923, he was a loving son of the late Cornelius M., Sr. and Josephine (Cahill) Coyle.

Dan grew up and was educated in Chicago, Illinois. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during WWII and was the recipient of the French Legion of Honor. While in the Navy he was involved in boxing and for many years after being discharged, loyally stayed in touch with his former fellow shipmates. He was also a member of both the American Legion and VFW in Dedham.

A resident of Mansfield for the past twenty years, he had formerly resided in Dedham for many years. Prior to retiring, Mr. Coyle was a self-employed printer and was one of three owners of the Bosworth Printing Company in Stoughton.

Dan was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield and a former parishioner of Saint Denis Church in Islington. He was happiest when spending time with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and more recently with his great-great grandson.

Mr. Coyle enjoyed the simple pleasures of going out to breakfast with friends, playing cards and ballroom dancing with his late wife Lucille. Another favorite pastime of Dan’s was watching his favorite television shows which included M*A*S*H, the Andy Griffith Show and western movies.

He is survived by his devoted daughters: Donna A. Cody and her husband Bill of Wareham and Maureen E. Tonelli and her husband John of Plainville. He was the cherished grandfather of Michelle McGee, Jason Holloway and Mark Holloway, the adoring great grandfather of Cody, Michael, Grace, Brooklyn and Lucas and great-great grandfather of Tobias. He was the dear brother of the late Cornelius “Bud” Coyle, Jr., Laverne Sitzler, Charlie Coyle and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Monday, January 28th at 9:30 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Hyde Park.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, January 27th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at The Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
