Edward J. MacDonald died peacefully at his residence in Willow Crossing, Mansfield, Massachusetts, on January 8, 2019.

Ed was born in 1935 in Quincy, Massachusetts. He was the youngest son of Anna (Deady) and William MacDonald and grew up in their home in the Wollaston section of Quincy.

He lost his wife of 54 years Mary Ann (Leslie) MacDonald in 2012. Ed is survived by his four children, Michael A. MacDonald and his wife Lisa of Clinton, CT, Thomas E. MacDonald and his wife Elisabeth of Charlestown, MA, Nancy (MacDonald) Gross and her husband Mark of Bethesda, MD, and Peter J. MacDonald and his wife Patti of Mansfield, MA; seven beloved grandchildren Bridget, Ryan, Mitchell, Abby, Amanda, Julia, and Emily; brother William MacDonald and his wife Lillian of Chelmsford, MA, brother Richard MacDonald of Towson, MD, his late brother Allen’s wife Claire MacDonald, and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was a 1953 graduate of North Quincy High School, a 1958 graduate with a BS in Business Administration from Northeastern University, and received his professional CPCU insurance degree in 1974. He went on to work for the Traveler’s Insurance Company for ten years in Boston and Natick, MA, before moving to the Brenton E. Tyler Insurance agency in Waltham, MA where he and his partners ran a successful business for over thirty years.

Ed lived in Hudson, MA, Medfield, MA, and Meredith, NH until his recent move to Mansfield. He leaves many good friends in all these locales. Ed will be remembered for his lifelong love of competition at the bowling alley, on the softball field, the golf course, and cruising the slopes of Gunstock Mountain in New Hampshire. He channeled his gift of gab by volunteering with the Lions Club for 44 years and serving as President at the Winnipesaukee Beach Colony Club and Willow Crossing homeowner’s association.

Arrangements include a funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street, Mansfield, MA on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 11:00 am and a family burial observance at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Falmouth, MA in the Spring of 2019.
