Thomas E. Burke, age 83, of Norton, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Norwood Hospital in Norwood. He was the beloved husband of the late Lena (Albanese) Burke, to who he was wed for fifty-four years at the time of her death on April 10, 2016.

Born in Boston, MA on March 25, 1935, he was a loving son of the late William and Margaret (Doppler) Burke.

Tom grew up in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston and was educated in Boston Public Schools. He served his country as a member of the United States Army for two years.

A resident of Norton for the past fifty-one years, Mr. Burke had worked at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and retired as a Disbursement Manager following forty-five years of faithful service.

Tom was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Norton. He was a founding member and past treasurer of Nine Lives of Norton and raised the funding for the organization’s new facility on Hill Street. He was also an active participant of the Norton Senior Center and a former member of the Norton Council on Aging.

Mr. Burke’s family was the focal point of his life. He enjoyed playing bridge with friends, was an avid sports fan, football being his favorite sport and always had a special love in his heart for animals, especially cats.

He is survived by his devoted children Joseph T. Burke and his wife Pamela of Cumberland, RI, Sheryl A. Harnedy and her husband Daniel of Norton, William P. Burke and his wife Elizabeth of Norton, and Lisa M. Murphy and her husband Brian of Norton. He was the dear brother of Jean Donahue, John Burke, Rosie Norton and the late Marguerite Morrison, Patricia Schell and Donald Burke. He is also survived by his cherished 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews

His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will begin on Wednesday, January 9th at 8:45 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow at Cedar Knoll Cemetery in East Taunton.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, January 8th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
