FALL RIVER – Joao "John" Augusto Costa Pereira, age 63, of Somerset, passed away peacefully at Charlton Memorial Hospital on December 25, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Maria F. (Raposo) Pereira. Born in Capelas, São Miguel, Açores, he was the son of the late Pedro V. and Teresa De Jesus (Costa) Pereira. Joao was a member of the Laborer’s Union Local 271 and Republican Club. He served in the Portuguese Army as Military Police in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Acores.
Joao is also survived by his daughter Elizabeth Ann Sousa (husband David M.) of Somerset; siblings Graca Pimentel of Acores and Pedro M. Pereira of Canada; grandchildren Christian, Isabella and Lillian. As well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. 1521 N. Main St., Fall River Friday with extended calling hours from 8:30-10:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John of God Church at 11:00 A.M.
