William F. Sherburne, 86

William F. Sherburne, age 86, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret F. (Farren) Sherburne, to whom she was wed for twenty-nine years at the time of her death in 1987.
Born in Waltham, MA on May 4, 1932, he was a loving son of the late Frank A. and Katherine F. (Heffernan) Sherburne.
Bill grew up in Weston and was a 1949 graduate of Weston High School. He furthered his studied graduating in 1953 from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in English.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Sherburne had worked an insurance underwriter at American Mutual in Wakefield. When younger he was a former fulltime firefighter for the Weston Fire Department and a call firefighter for the town of Needham. Following retirement and while living in Mansfield he worked as a greeter at Helix Technology in Mansfield.
A resident of Mansfield for the past thirty years, he had previously resided in Needham and especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the First Foot Guard in the British Regiment, a group that performed Revolutionary War reenactments. His other hobbies including collecting model trains, model cars and model firetrucks.
He is survived by his devoted daughters: Katherine F. Murphy and her husband Gary of Mansfield and Marie L. Doucette and her husband James of Medway. He was the adoring grandfather of Duncan, Ryan and Sean Murphy and Melanie and Michelle Doucette.
His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday, December 29th at 2:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will be private.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 28th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
