FALL RIVER – Diamantina Machado, age 92, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on December 19, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Joao Viveiros Alves Fernandes. Born in Arrifes, São Miguel, Açores, she was the daughter of the late Joao and Escolastica (Cabral) Machado. Diamantina loved taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also had a love for gardening.
Diamantina is survived by her children Maria Victoria Raposo (husband Octavio) of Fall River, Maria Escolastica Cordeiro (husband late Tobias Cordeiro) of Fall River and Manuel Sousa Fernandes (wife Constantina) of Canada; sister Maria Matias of New Bedford; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Manuel Sousa.
Her funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Monday, December 24th here at 9 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial St. Michael’s Church at 10 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
