Edmund A. Thurm, age 78, of Mansfield, formerly of Magalia, California passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, He was the beloved husband of Sandra J. (Funk) Thurm, to who he was wed for fifty-eight years.

Born in Sublette, Illinois on November 26, 1940, he was a loving son of the late Kenneth Thurm and Wanda (Rossiter) Whitbread.

Ed spent his early childhood living in Sublette and at the age of 4 his family moved to California where he grew up and was educated. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Thurm had been employed as a truck driver for Target Stores in Northern California. He had recently moved to Mansfield in November and previously resided in Magalia, California.

Ed also served as a reserve police officer in California for the communities of Oakland, Freemont and Hayward. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Past Grand master of his Lodge in San Leandro, California and was very proud of his membership and affiliation in the Ancient and Honorable Order of Turtles.

Ed loved spending time with his adoring family. His hobbies included woodworking and working in his yard. He was also a huge John Wayne fan and particularly enjoyed watching western movies.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted daughters: Sandra Stacy and her husband James of North Carolina, Kimberly Reed and her husband Michael of Mansfield and the late Tammy Rogers. He was the dear brother of Kenneth Ray Thurm of Idaho, William Thurm of California and Cheryn Adcock of California. He was the cherished grandfather of Daniel, Nicole, Timothy, Clayton, Emily, Lindsay and Samantha and is also survived by many great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Services and burial will be held privately at the convenience of his family and visiting hours have been omitted.
