Louise S. (Banville) Smedile, 78, passed away December 6, 2018 in Dover, following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph A. Smedile.
Born and raised in Salem, MA, she was the daughter of the late Louis R. Banville and Jeannette (Dumas) Berube. Following her graduation from St. Joseph Academy, she worked for the New England Telephone Company. In 1961 she and Joe married and Louise devoted the next years of her life to the care of her family. She and her family were residents of Marblehead for many years where she volunteered for the Marblehead Boosters. Following the passing of Joe she moved to Durham, NH in 2003. Louise was an avid quilter and also did volunteer work for New Hampshire Public Television.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda E. Luther and her son-in-law Thomas E. Luther of Durham, NH, her sister-in-law, Ellen L. Dufour of Reading, MA and her niece, Alyssa B. Dufour of Hyde Park, MA. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Michael A. Dufour, step-brother, Richard H. Dufour, step-sisters, Shirley A. Durgin, Jeanne T. Markewicz and Doris M. Sanders.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem, MA on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 10:00 AM to be followed by her Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem, MA at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem, MA. Visiting hours, at the funeral home, will be on Thursday, Dec. 13th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
