Alfred Mendonca, 95, of Londonderry, NH died Tuesday December 4, 2018 at the Community Hospice House, Merrimack, NH. He was born in Fall River, MA on August 2, 1923, the son of the late Pedro and Catarina (Texeira) Mendonca. After living in the Azores for many years, he returned to the US in 1960. Mr. Mendonca had resided in Auburn, NH for past three years, formerly living in Londonderry, and Somerville, MA. Over the years he was employed by NE Casket in East Boston, MA, Genoa Packing Co. of Cambridge, MA and later the Youville Hospital, Cambridge, MA. He was a communicant of St. Jude Parish, Londonderry.
Alfred is survived by his two daughters, Victoria Travassos and her husband Antonio of Windham, NH, Celia Medeiros and her husband Clement of Auburn, his son, Joseph Mendonca and his wife Fatima of Merrimack, NH, eight grandchildren, Jason Travassos and his wife Renee, Mark Travassos and his wife Kristin, Brandon Travassos, Melissa Suozzo and her husband Joe, Kristin Mendonca and her husband Chris, Kimberly Mendonca Guzman and her husband Carlos, Eric Medeiros and Cassie, and Michelle Medeiros and Shawn, and 13 great-grandchildren, Isabella, Landon, Emma, Elena, Ashlyn, Joey, Sophia, Declan, Jaxton, Carter, Logan, Julian, and Addy. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Alfred was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Maria N. (Almas) Mendonca in 2010 and by his siblings, Antonio Mendonca, Maria Barbosa, and Maria Silva.
Calling hours were held Sunday December 9, 2018 from 2 to 6 pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday at 10:00am at St. Jude Parish, 435 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. Burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery, Londonderry. Donations in his memory may be made to the Community Hospice House, 210 Naticook Rd., Merrimack, NH 03054.
