Obituary


Longtime Provincetown resident Joan ‘Joanne’ Oliver passed away Sunday, November 25th at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Joseph R. Oliver.

Born and educated in Provincetown, Joan was the daughter of the late Manuel and Virginia [Bent] Ferreira. After graduation, she married and was a devoted mother and very much enjoyed raising her family.

As her children became older, she went to work as a cook at the Veterans Memorial School in Provincetown, where she worked for more than 25 years. She also worked summers at the Silva’s Seafood Connection.

Joan was an active member of St Peter the Apostle Church, as a member of the choir and teaching Christian Doctrine to the youth for over 30 years. She was recognized for her service to the Church by being awarded the Marian Medal. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
She is survived by daughters Shelia Colburn of Truro, Joanne Machado and Cindy Castrigno of South Dennis, Robin McLellan of North Eastham, and Jo Marie Cole of West Barnstable. A son, Michael Noons of South Dennis as well as 7 grandchildren and 8 Greatgrandchildren also survive her.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am on Friday November 30th at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St, Provincetown. Burial will follow at St. Peters Cemetery.
