Obituary

Mitchell, Marie Florence (Moran) passed away with family at her home in West Roxbury on Wednesday, November 21, 2018. The daughter of John and Florence Moran, Marie grew up in Cambridge near Hoyt field, named after her uncle, a hero of the First World War. An only child, Marie's father died when she was 13 and she was raised by her mother Flossie with strong support from co-workers who became life-long friends. Marie attended Matignon High School, where she met the love of her life, Joe Mitchell. They were happily married for 26 years until his death in 1984. She was a volunteer for a variety of organizations throughout her long, full life, from a Cub Scout Den mother to a La Leche League leader and LLL Massachusetts State Treasurer. Her devout Catholic faith was the current that underlay all her commitments. After many years staying home with her children, Marie trained as a nurse and obtained her degree from St. Catherine Laboure College in 1983. She worked for many years as a certified pediatric rehabilitation nurse at Franciscan Children's Hospital, and earned her certificate as a lactation consultant. Marie enjoyed spending summers at the family cottage on Plum Island and Florida get-aways with her friends and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joseph, her son Russell, and daughter-in-law Kate. She is survived by her loving family: her seven children Joseph Mitchell (Adelia Hubley) of Dartmouth, Margaret Mitchell-West of West Roxbury (Jeffrey West of Framingham), John (Susan Sabella) Mitchell of Washington, D.C., Anne Marie (Gary) Tetrault Jr. of Hampton Bays, NY, Joan (Mark) Reynolds of Dillingham, AK, Elizabeth (Thomas) Schoellkopf of West Seneca, NY, Stephen (Meaghan Sweeney) Mitchell of West Roxbury; her nineteen grandchildren Vytas (Hannah Farnham) and Povilas Mitchell, Jason, Elizabeth, Jeffrey, Samuel, Catherine, and Daisy West, Julia and Nathalie Mitchell, Julia and Gary III Tetrault, Isaac, Walter and Hugh Reynolds, Corey and Mitchell Schoellkopf, Joseph and Celia Mitchell; and three great-granddaughters Charlotte and Sylvia Mitchell and Charlotte Ma.
