John W. Day, 90

John W. Day, age 90, of Mansfield, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. He was the former husband of the late Barbara W. (Thompson) Day.

Born in Lynn, MA on February 26, 1928, he was a loving son of the late John H. and Sarah A. (Bourque) Day.

John grew up and was educated in Lynn. During WWII, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.

Mr. Day had made his home in Mansfield for the past fifty-three years and prior to retiring, he had been employed for over thirty years as an instructor at Walpole State Prison.

John was an actively involved charter member and honorary life member of the Mansfield Lodge of Elks # 2633. He served on numerous committees, was currently an Inner Guard and served as a Past Exalted Ruler.

John’s other memberships included the Sharon VFW and the Hockomock YMCA in North Attleboro where he especially loved to swim. Following his retirement, he unselfishly volunteered his assistance at the Brockton VA Medical Center.

John was a devout Catholic whose family was always a special part of his life. He also enjoyed tinkering around his home and spending time at the beach.

He is survived by his devoted children: Linda I. McGowan of Dracut, Lorraine M. Carnie of Norton, Raymond A. Muise of Mansfield, Mary E. Trenouth of Woonsocket, Marie E. Day of Brockton and the late Russell A. Muise. He is also survived by his cherished 12 grandchildren, as well as 9 great grandchildren.

Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Sunday, November 25th from 3:00-6:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of visitation at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Burial will military honors will be held on Monday, November 26th at 11:00 A.M. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave., Bourne.
