Obituary

Phyllis Tirone Muto, 89, of Andover, Massachusetts passed away peacefully at home on November 4, 2018, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Phyllis was a devoted wife, and loving mother to her three children and six grandchildren. Born to Italian immigrant parents, she grew up in Medford, MA and was a graduate of Emmanuel College. She started her career as a schoolteacher then married Dr. Rudolph Muto and moved to Andover where she lived for the next 53 years. Phyllis was an active member of the community, volunteering for many charitable organizations and was a member of the November Club and the Andover Garden Club. Eventually she used her talent for design and floral arrangement to run the Andover Flower Shoppe. Her family, however, was her priority, and it was with her love and support that they were able to achieve excellence in their endeavors. Phyllis was passionate, creative, and always ready to speak her mind and she will be missed by all who knew her.

Phyllis is predeceased by her husband, Rudolph Muto M.D. and is survived by her son Michael G. Muto, M.D., his wife Janet of Wayland, MA, son Mark R. Muto, his wife Bettina Graves-Muto of Boxford, MA, and daughter, Paula M. Muto M.D. and her husband Jonathan Gordon M.D. of Andover, MA. In addition she is survived by her grandchildren Katherine W. Muto and husband, Craig Zevin, M. Christopher Muto and wife, Alexandra Ong-Muto, Stefanie Muto Nickerson and husband, Michael Nickerson, Nicole Muto-Graves, Emma Muto Gordon and David Phillip Gordon. Phyllis will be be missed by her family and friends.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover, MA on Friday, November 9, 2018, at 10 AM. Interment will be private.
