BANKS, John Joseph “Joe”, III of West Roxbury, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on October 6, 2018. Beloved husband of 43 years to Deborah (McIrney). Loving father of Kristie McManus & her husband Brian (BPD) of West Roxbury and Courtney Dunn & her husband Ryan of Walpole. Cherished Pappy to Jaymie, Casey, Aiden and Tanner. Joe was the devoted son of the late Catherine ‘Kaye’ McBrine Banks. Dear brother of Anne Marie Doyle (John) of Marshfield, Kathleen Banks of Scituate, Tricia McKinnon of Pembroke, Suzanne Willcutt (David) of Scituate, James (Ann) of Marshfield, Christine Banks of Cohasset and Bryan (Christine) of New York. Joe also leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Joe was a graduate of BC High and went on to earn his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. He was employed in the Street Lighting Division of Boston Public Works for 38 years and retired in 2010. His retirement consisted of taking care of his grandchildren, travelling and house projects. He was Past Grand Knight and an active member of the Knights of Columbus #3049 where he made lifelong friendships. He was also a member of BPOE ELKS #10 in West Roxbury.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joe’s Funeral on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 9:00am from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Theresa of Avila Church, 2078 Centre St. West Roxbury at 10 o’clock. His burial will be at Mt. Benedict Cemetary in West Roxbury. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 from 4-8pm in the funeral home.

Joe fought a courageous 15 month battle against Glioblastoma. He was treated under the compassionate care of Dr. Brian Nahed, Dr. Isabel Arrillaga-Romany and Dr. Helen Shih at Massachusetts General Hospital. Joe’s family is grateful to the doctor’s, nurses and medical professionals on Lunder 7&8 as well as the Radiation team at MGH. The Banks family would like to extend their greatest appreciation to Joe’s nurse as well as the staff at Seasons Hospice for helping him in his last month.
