Obituary

SOUTH YARMOUTH: Steven R. Lucas (Luke), 65, of South Yarmouth, formerly of Natick and Millis, MA died Wednesday, September 19th in Wareham Healthcare Center of Wareham, MA.

Luke is survived by his daughter: Derri Lucas and her long-time partner David Oxton of Knox, ME; his grandchildren: Kiana Oxton and Anastasia Oxton of Knox, ME; his sister: Carole Lucas and her long-time partner Peter Cooney of South Yarmouth, MA; his brothers: Edward Lucas of Northbridge, MA; Wayne Lucas and his wife Lauren of Grafton, MA; David Lucas and his wife Jean of Watertown, MA; his ex-wife and lifelong friend; Patti Lucas and her companion Al of Belfast, ME; several aunts and uncles and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.

Luke was born on September 6, 1953 in Brookline, MA to the late Donald Lucas and Claire (Pickell) Fedrick. He attended Natick High School and enrolled in the ARMY at age 18. He earned his GED while in the service.

Luke was friendly and kind, he always enjoyed talking to people and he had a great sense of humor. He was also strong willed and had a fighting spirit, always ready for the next adventure. He was compassionate towards animals and they always felt safe around him. He loved many animals throughout his life, most of all his dog Bowser and his cats Streaker and George.

Luke enjoyed gambling, horse racing, casinos and traveling, especially with his mother, stepfather and Joan. He loved watching the Redsox and Patriots, playing cribbage, reading the newspaper and talking on the phone, often asking his favorite question, "What's for dinner?”, his favorite holiday being Thanksgiving! He also loved monitoring the weather with his long time friend John O’fria, aka "The Weatherman". Above all else, Luke loved his family. His family will miss hearing his voice and his signature nickname "darling" for all the ladies in his life.

Luke is now in a better place and will no longer be struggling with his battle against alcoholism. Instead, he will be raising hell with his many loved ones on the other side, wherever that may be.

In addition to his parents, Luke was predeceased by his life-long companion, Joan Flaherty with whom he shared many beautiful years, as well as his step-father, Marion Fedrick, who he shared a very special bond with.

Luke's family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to all of the many caregivers throughout his life.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 5th in the chapel of John Everett and Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, Natick, MA 01760 from 9:00-11:15 A.M. followed by burial in Ridge Lawn Cemetery, Watertown, MA.
