Betty Ann Parker
9/11/2018

Betty Ann Parker, 79, of Prosser, Washington, went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on September 11, 2018. She was surrounded by family throughout her final days.

Betty was born on December 4, 1938, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Herbert and Lillian Johnson. As a child, her father was in construction and the family moved around often, living in Arizona, Oregon and finally settling in Prosser, Washington when Betty was a sophomore in High School. As a teenager, Betty was active in drama and choir. She graduated from Prosser High School in 1956. Betty lived up to her senior quote, “Life is a funny thing”.

Betty married her high school sweetheart, Roy Parker, on April 4, 1957 in Groton, Connecticut’s “Chapel on the Thames”. Betty was a Navy wife for twenty years, traveling extensively along both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts. Her unselfish, faithful and devoted service, during Roy’s naval career, enabled her to lovingly support her husband and raise her six children.

In 1977, the Parker family settled back in Prosser, Washington. Betty worked as a secretary for places such as WSU Experiment Station, Westinghouse Hanford and Messiah Lutheran Church. She retired in 1995.

“Betty Boop” (Betty’s alter ego!) enjoyed camping every summer and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Betty was the life of the party wherever she went. She had a bigger than life personality and was a master storyteller. She encouraged those in her life, and lived a devout life of faith. She welcomed all into her home with open arms, without judgment. Her family was her greatest treasure. She was loved by all who came in contact with her and will be missed.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Lillian Johnson. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Roy Parker; her six children, Vicky Cravens, Lon Parker, Glenn Parker, Kelly Parker, Jacqueline Kitchens and Wesley Parker; her sister, Elaine Weiss; her brother, Norris Johnson; her sixteen grandchildren, Jasmine Williams, Jesse Cox, Jason Cox, Kelsi Duncan, Emily Cox, Devan Parker, Steven Cox, Camden Kitchens, Derik Parker, Beau Kitchens, Gunnar Parker, Charlene Parker, Trey Kitchens, Lacy Kitchens, Mackenzie Parker and Alisha Parker; and her ten great-grandchildren.

Donations can be made to Messiah Lutheran Church in Prosser which is also where a Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, September 17 at 11:00 AM.
