BOYD, Vance E. of Fredericksburg, VA, formerly of Springfield, MA, September 17, 2018. Former spouse of the late Christine A. (Stuart) Boyd. Loving father of Carrie L. Boyd of West Roxbury and the late Karen Boyd. Stepfather of John Marchese of Springfield and Christine Ayers of Longmeadow. Step-grandfather to 5. Brother of Maureen Chapin of Fredericksburg, VA and the late Suzanne Byrne. Also survived by his niece Suzie Ludwig of Stafford, VA and several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY, Saturday, September 22nd at 10am. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 11o’clock. Visiting hours Friday, September 21st from 5p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Interment private. Vance was born March 30, 1933 in Springfield, MA to Samuel and Mary Boyd. He graduated from Williston Academy in Easthampton and earned a B.S. in Business from Babson College in Wellesley, MA. He served in the US Army from 1956-1958 as a Specialist Third Class in the Quartermaster Division.

He was the owner/manager of the Bailey Wagner chain of furniture stores in the greater Springfield area, which his father Samuel Boyd founded. Vance later sold the business and started Best Rental Furniture Company, Springfield, MA which he ran until his retirement.

Vance's love for horses began while serving in the US Army in Nashville, TN. He started horse training, racing and showing both Tennessee Walkers and Standardbred Trotters. He kept in touch with many of his horse training friends for many years.

Vance retired to Fredericksburg, VA and wintered in Bonita Springs, FL. In retirement, he enjoyed trying to learn new musical instruments and was proud of his steel guitar. He loved taking lessons from Billy Cooper of Orange, VA. He also loved billiards and founded the Billiards Club of Falls Run. Vance was also an avid Patriots Fan.
