SPRINGFIELD ~ Michael Peter Mancini, 68, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 7, 2018. He passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by all the memories he loved and cherished. He was born in Springfield on August 16, 1950. He was raised in Springfield, attended local schools and lived in the city for many years. He began his career as a Chef in Fort Lauderdale, FL. After returning to Springfield, he pursued his education and achieved a Master’s Degree in Mathematics from Central Connecticut State University. Michael taught in the Springfield School District for 14 years. He enjoyed working with children, especially students with Special Needs. Of Lebanese and Italian descent, Michael loved to cook. He enjoyed reading, backgammon and was a big fan of football and baseball. Michael was predeceased by his adored mother, Dolores Nichols Mancini. He will be sadly missed by his father, Albert R. Mancini; and his loving sisters, Suzanne Maynard, Tina Gebert and Joanne Scearce. Michael will be lovingly remembered by the love of his life, Ellen Hurley, his companion of 20 years. His brother-in-law, Rick Maynard was his loyal friend and confidant until the end. Michael joyously loved his nephew, Jarett; nieces, Danielle and Chelsea; and his grandniece, Ava. His relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. His family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Springfield Unit, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
