John Thomas Barry, 97, of Salem Ma, formerly of Winthrop passed away on Friday August 17, 2018 at his home in Salem. Born September 12, 1920 in Lynn, MA, he was the son of the late Dr. Thomas Barry and Ethlyn Barry. John had a long career in the Aviation Industry starting as an aircraft mechanic for Pratt & Whitney at La Guardia airport in New York to Superintendent of Maintenance for Eastern Airlines at Logan Airport in Boston, MA. With a career that spanned 41 years, John saw tremendous changes in aviation. He enjoyed traveling after his retirement along with being an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. John is predeceased by his wife(s) Clara Barry, Gertrude Barry and M. Elaine Berardi (Barry). John is survived by his daughter Eileen Barry Johnson and her husband Bruce Johnson of Winthrop MA, sons Thomas Leonard Barry of Salem MA and Kevin John Barry and his wife Marcella Barry of Pleasanton CA and daughter Patricia Ann Vernstrom and her husband Jon Vernstrom of Hagerstown MD. Predeceased by his dear sisters, Ethyn, Betty and Shirley. Friends and Family are invited to visit with the family on 08/23/2018 at 09:00-11:00am at the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home 210 Winthrop St. WINTHROP, followed by Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church-Winthrop at 11:30am. Burial will be held at St. Mary Cemetery in Lynn.
