John G. Winters, 89, of Dartmouth passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Hathaway Manor, New Bedford. He was husband of the late Dorothy (Sciolto) Winters.
Born in Woonsocket, RI, son of the late John A. and Margaret (Gilbert) Winters, he grew up in Newport, RI before moving to Somerset following his marriage to Dorothy and lived there for many years. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving his country in the United States Army. A graduate of Bryant University, he was the Executive Vice President for First Federal Savings Bank of America in Fall River until his retirement. Mr. Winters was instrumental in developing affordable housing for senior citizens during his tenure as President of the Somerset Housing Authority. He also served as President of the Fall River Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include two sons: John A. Winters and his wife Bailey of Westport and James G. Winters and his wife Robin of Westport; three grandchildren: Dalton, Jane and Jameson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late Donald Winters, Connie Jennings and Ellie Lilley.
Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, August 18, 2018 at St. John the Baptist Church, 945 Main Rd., Westport, MA at 10 AM.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
