Daniel Ray Penwell, of Grandview, passed away peacefully Saturday July 21, 2018 at the age of 87. Danny was born November 26, 1930 to Vernon and Ann Penwell in Carpenter, WY.
His family soon moved to Washington. He grew up with his older brother Don and younger sister and brother JoAnn and Dale. In 1942, they moved to Ellensburg. After graduating from Thorp in 1948, he moved to Spokane and worked in a bank before returning to Ellensburg, where he met Peggy Hinzman.
Danny and Peggy were married September 8, 1951. He soon joined the Marines and left for Camp Pendleton, CA and was stationed at El Toro. Danny was discharged in 1953 and they moved with 1st son Rick (1952) to Grandview.
There they made their home and added 3 more sons to the family; Bill (1954), Daniel (1956) & Doug (1958). They purchased a service station in 1956 and sold it in 1969 when he went to work for A. F. Murch (Smucker). Danny retired in January of 1996 and continued working on the family farm with his many animals. He and Peggy made 50+ trips to Wyoming during their 58 years together before her passing in 2009.
At the age of 79, Danny was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Two years later, he met Betty Arterburn and they married on 9-10-11. They enjoyed traveling and were great companions throughout their marriage.
Danny is survived by his wife Betty, brother Dale, sister JoAnn, sons Rick, Bill & wife Joni, Daniel & wife Cindy, and Doug & wife Mary. Grandchildren Jeremy, Dustin & wife Lindsy, Brandon, Corie, Andrew & wife Ronda, Adam & wife Amanda, Christine & husband Jared, and Great Grandchildren Adalynn, Braelynn, Maisie, Daxon, and Beaux.
He was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Ann, wife Peggy and brother Don.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday August 11, at 2pm at The Kingdom Hall, 2291 Tear Rd. in Sunnyside. A reception will follow at the Prosser Senior Center.
