Bauer, Rita M. (Laffey) of West Roxbury, (German Centre), age 95, formerly of Jamaica Plain, Mattapan, and Roslindale, August 2, 2018. Rita was the youngest of the five children of Catherine J. (Glynn) and Michael F. Laffey. Rita was predeceased by her husband James V. Bauer (Past Grand Knight, K of C council 3049 of West Roxbury, and Past District Deputy) in 2011, and her brothers and sisters and their spouses, James and Ellen Laffey, Jean and George Doherty, Thomas and Rosemary Laffey, and Kathryn and George McColgan. Rita is survived by her two children and their spouses, Patricia and Patrick Hanehan of Clearwater, FL, and James F. and Cecile Bauer of Frisco, TX, as well as by two grandchildren, Brendan J. Hanehan of Essex Junction, VT and Lauren A. Bauer of College Station, TX. Rita is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A native Bostonian, Rita attended the Cheverus School and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas HS, Jamaica Plain, class of 1941. Rita then worked as a bookkeeper for the John Hancock Insurance Company. Rita was devoted to her Faith, her family and her friends, and she loved everything that is wonderful about the City of Boston.
Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who loved, supported and cared for both of our parents, especially in their later years. Our family also thanks the staff and residents of the German Centre for their care, compassion and friendship during the two years that our father resided there, and during the nearly ten years that our mother resided there. .
Funeral from the Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St. West Roxbury on Monday August 6, at 8:30 am. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in The Holy Name Church at 9:30 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Sunday August 5, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.
Interment St. Joseph Cemetery.
