Gloria M. (Palazzini) Desmarais

CHICOPEE ~ Gloria M. (Palazzini) Desmarais, 96, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, August 2, 2018. She passed into Eternal Life at Willimansett Center East in Chicopee surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Bellingham, Massachusetts on September 24, 1921, a beloved daughter of the late Ernesto and Palma (Brunetti) Palazzini. She moved with her family to Holyoke in 1924 and later lived on Percy Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee. In 1951, she moved to West Springfield and later to Ludlow. In 1960, she moved to Ross Avenue in the Fairview section of Chicopee where she lived until 2012 when she moved to the Arbors on Memorial Drive. She was employed at the former Skinner Silk Mill in Holyoke. She was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee where she also was a member of the Saint Anne Sodality Guild of the Church. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Alfred E. “Fred” Desmarais who was Called Home on November 12, 2009. They were married on August 6, 1946 at the former Sacred Heart Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 63 years of happiness together. She leaves her two loving daughters, Anne Marie C. Desmarais of Maynard, MA and Barbara J. Pronovost and her husband, Edward, of Chicopee; her two cherished grandchildren, Caroline M. Pronovost of Queens, NY and Gregory K. Pronovost and his partner, Ashley, and their son, Seamus, of Chicopee; her dear sister, Lenora Satcher and her husband, Carl, of Texas; and her dear brother, Norman Palazini of Woodstock, CT. In addition, Gloria leaves her devoted niece, Maria Tallman of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Desmarais and Palazzini families. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her nine dear siblings, Amelia Trottier, Palma B. Palazzini, Emily Langevin, Elena Griffin, Yolanda Peters, Mamie Mohan and John, Ernest and Sylvio Palazzini. Her Funeral will be held on Friday morning, August 10, 2018 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday morning, August 10, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home. For those who prefer, her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 or to Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen, 170 Pendexter Avenue, Chicopee, MA 01013.
