Michael Trainer

Michael Trainer, a long time Prosser resident, entered into rest on July 11, 2018. He was born to Paul and Zelma (Grooms) Trainer on May 5, 1928 in Eureka, Kansas. When Mike was six years old, his father and uncle moved their families traveling in a Model A Ford from Kansas to Holden Village at the head of Lake Chelan to work the copper mine. There he grew to appreciate the wild outdoors. After the loss of his father at the age of 14, Mike assumed some of his father's responsibilities helping his mother and younger three sisters. He was raised and educated in Holden and Lake Chelan where he graduated from High School. The summer after High School, Mike worked for the Forest Service in Alaska doing research study on wild Life. While attending Eastern Washington University, he was drafted into the US Army and served during the Korean War. After his discharge, he finished at EWU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. While in college, he met Judith Colby and they were married on August 17, 1957 in Deer Park. After moving to Lynnwood, they began raising their family and Mike working for Edmonds School District until moving to Prosser in 1969. He taught Industrial Arts (wood shop) at Prosser High School until retiring in 1982.

Mike was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed wood working, traveling with Judy in their motor home around the US, skiing and fishing. He was a devoted husband and father. He loved and adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mike is survived by his wife, Judith Trainer of sixty years; his son David Trainer of Yakima, daughter Kathy Dorantes (Gus) of Leander TX: daughter Shannon Paeschke (Jeff) of Richland, his sisters, Teresa Shipman of Port Orchard and Sharon Bokor of Deer Park, his Grandchildren, Kent Trainer, William Trainer, Garrett Paeschke, Stephanie Ward (Kevin) and Colby Dorantes; nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Bigelow; daughter –in-law Jonni Trainer, and grandson, Jonathan Trainer.

The family would like to thank Kadlec Hospital and a very special thank you to Richland Life Care for the wonderful care and compassion you gave our Dad.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday July 18, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Prosser Funeral Home with the recitation of the Holy Rosary to begin at 6:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prosser on Thursday, July 19, at 10:00 AM with a luncheon to follow.
