Atty. George S. Abdala

AGAWAM – Attorney George S. Abdala, 94, of Agawam, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, July 5, 2018. He passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on June 20, 1924, the beloved son of the late Nelson S. Abdala and Anne (Mowad) Abdala. He was raised on Charles Street in the North End of Springfield, graduated from Classical High School and lived in Springfield for many years before moving to Agawam in 1992. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and attained the rank of Sergeant. He served in the battles of Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe and received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He furthered his education and received his Juris Doctorate Degree from Boston University School of Law. He was a longtime solo criminal defense practitioner in Springfield and previously was the First Assistant District Attorney for the County of Hampden under District Attorney Matthew Ryan. Active in his Catholic faith, he was a communicant of Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church in Springfield and a member of Saint Anthony Men’s Club. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many dear friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Leila (Succar) Abdala. They were married on August 25, 1977 and were blessed with over 40 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving children, Nelson G. Abdala of Agawam and Dianna L. Abdala of Boston; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended members of the Abdala and Succar families in the United States and Lebanon. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear sister and brother-in-law, Emra Kelly and her husband, Raymond. His Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, MA 01118. His Burial with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. For those who prefer, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, MA 01118.
