Marielle C. (Poulin) Messier

SPRINGFIELD – Marielle C. (Poulin) Messier, 80, of the Brightwood section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, July 2, 2018. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Drummondville, Province of Quebec, Canada on November 16, 1937, a beloved daughter of the late Elphege and Yvonne (Gendreau) Poulin. She was raised in Drummondville and came to Springfield around 1957 where she lived for the rest of her life. She was employed for many years at the former Steigers Warehouse in Springfield. During her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family whom she dearly loved. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gilles G. Messier who was Called Home on July 18, 1990. They were married on June 14, 1958 at the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and were blessed with 32 years of happiness together. She was also predeceased by her loving son, Pierre W. Messier who was Called Home on July 2, 1983; her dear sister, Andree Dionne; and her two dear brothers, Marcel and Serge Poulin. She leaves her two devoted daughters, Diane Y. Perusse and her husband, Mark, and Christine G. Fontaine and her husband, Keith, all of Chicopee; her six cherished grandchildren, Shelby Perusse, Nina Marie Leclerc, Wade Leclerc, Zachary Perusse and his wife, Noelle, Scott Fontaine and his wife, Jess, and Taylor Fontaine; her two cherished great-grandchildren, Avely Perusse and Gabriel Fontaine; her four dear sisters, Gisele Reome and her husband, Robert, and Francine Poulin, all of Springfield, Lucy Lynch and her husband Danny, of Westfield and Anita Lavigne of West Springfield; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended members of the Messier and Poulin families in Canada and the United States. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, July 10, 2018 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, (Springfield Unit), 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
