Obituary

Therese J. Cote, 94, formerly of Congress St. and Privilege St. in Woonsocket died Friday June 15, 2018 with her family by her side at Heritage Hills Nursing & Rehab Center in Smithfield. She was the loving wife of the late Robert B. Cote. They were married on November 30, 1946 and shared almost 60 years together until his passing in 2005.
Born in Woonsocket she was a daughter of the late Alphonse Gregoire and Marie Anne (Lebel) Gregoire Ledoux. She was raised in Trois Rivieres P.Q. Canada and returned to Woonsocket with her family when she was 19.
Mrs. Cote worked in the local textile industry in her younger years and was later employed at U.S. Rubber and Uniroyal. She worked in the dietary department at Woonsocket Hospital for many years before retiring in 1984.
Therese was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph Parish. She was involved in the parish as a member of the choir, volunteered for Bingo, St. Joseph’s Cupboard and a number of parish activities. She was a member of the Waterview Tenants Association, the AARP and Royal Travelers. She was a proud member of Red Sox Nation and in her 80s became a Patriots fan (better late than never!). Some favorite activities were walking, bowling, playing cards and dominoes and miniature golf.
Therese was a joyful person, the life of the party and the center of her family. She was blessed with many happy years, decades-long friendships (some of whom she met in the butter line during wartime rationing.) As much as Therese was faithful and devout she was equally an upbeat and vivacious spirit.
She is survived by four daughters Sr. Helene Cote, P.M. of Methuen, MA, Pauline Ryan and Rita Ryan both of North Providence and Vivian Aubin and her husband Michael of Oakland. She was the mother-in-law of the late Timothy and Lloyd Ryan and sister of the late Filicienne Heroux. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jennifer and Christopher Ryan and Aaron Aubin and great-granddaughter Mackenzie Ryan.
Her funeral will be Monday June 25th at 9:30 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Joseph Church, Mendon Rd. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Sunday June 24th from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Retirement Fund of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary, 209 Lawrence St. Methuen, MA. 01844.
