Frederick R. ”Rick” Mayo of Canton and So.Yarmouth died June 7,2018. He was 58 years old. Born and raised in Osterville he attended Barnstable High School Class of 1978 and Wentworth Institute where he studied marine mechanics. Rick worked for over 35 years as an Automotive Mechanic for several local shops and for many years at Direct Tire in Norwood before going to work with CSX Transportation as a Freight Train Conductor. He was an active member of the YMCA in Stoughton and a graduate of their Live Strong program. He loved gardening and could fix anything that came his way. He was like the real MacGyver. Rick was happiest spending time with family and friends at his cottage on Cape Cod. He loved kayaking, taking walks on the beach with his wife, and driving around the Cape acting as tour guide for anyone unfamiliar with the area. He was the “Fire Master” of PAV. Even dealing with his own personal struggles with cancer and MS, Rick continued to always make himself available to help others. Kindest and most loving husband of Annette M. (Ippolito) Mayo. Beloved son of the late Robert “Skippy” and Barbara Mayo. Brother of Patricia A. and her husband Don McWilliams of FL, Meredith Mayo McClane of FL, Matthew R. and his wife Maura Mayo of No. Attleboro and Steve Mayo of ME. He is also survived by his cherished mother in law Lillian “our Lil” Ippolito of Mansfield, his in-laws Frank and Maureen Ippolito, Cathy and Michael McDonagh all of Norwood, and Michael and Lisa Ippolito of Tewksbury, as well as so many wonderful loving and caring nieces, nephews, and also great nieces & nephews. Visiting hours will be held in the Dockray and Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton on Friday from 4-8pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Church 79 W. Milton St., Readville on Saturday at 10 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment private. If desired, gifts in memory of Rick can be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute to advance lymphoma research and patient care under the direction of Dr. Eric Jacobsen.
