TIVERTON – George F. DuPonte, age 98 of Tiverton, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Theophile & Evangelina (Moniz) DuPonte, the step-son of the late Maria (Medeiros) DuPonte, and the beloved husband of the late Delores (Camara) DuPonte. Prior to retiring, George worked as a leather belt maker and he was a US Army veteran of WW II.
George is survived by his children: Robert DuPonte (wife Nancy) of Tiverton, Paula Fernandes (husband Richard) of Tiverton, Retired Master Sgt. Glenn A. DuPonte (wife Sarah) of VA; a brother: John DuPonte of Tiverton; 8 grandchildren: Scott DuPonte, Ryan DeCosta, Jason Thibault, Andrew DuPonte, Lindsey Fernandes, Taylor Fernandes, Luke DuPonte; 4 great grandchildren; Jorja Brown, James DuPonte, Emma DuPonte, Mia DeCosta and several nieces & nephews. He was the father of the late Gwendolyn Thibault, grandfather of the late Timothy DuPonte, and the brother of the late Antonio DePonte, Manuel, Jesse, Theophile Jr. “Ted”, & Alfred DuPonte, Mary Barboza, Alice Kelley, & Albertina Rego.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River on Friday at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Madeline Sophie Church, 35 Lake Rd., Tiverton, RI at 11:00 AM. Interment in Newport Memorial Park, Middletown, RI. Calling hours Thursday 4-7 PM.
