Obituary

Ward G. Gordon (Ret BFD) age 85, of Brockton, died peacefully May 21, 2018 at Good Samaritan Medical Center. Ward was the loving husband for 62 years of Mary C. (Lombardi) Gordon. Born and raised in Lowell, he was the son of the late Ward and Elizabeth (O’Brien) Gordon. Ward was a graduate of Lowell High School, and University of Massachusetts, Boston, Class of 1983. Following graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and served in the Korean War. For over 32 years he was a Brockton Firefighter, and retired in 1996 as Deputy Fire Chief. Ward was devoted to his family and enjoyed many summers of family vacations on the Cape. He also liked to travel and was an avid Boston Sports fan. For over 20 years he was a member of the Castle Island Association in South Boston.

Ward is also survived by his children Ward, Jr. of Brockton, Paul of Missouri, Lisa of Brockton and Laurie of Taunton; six grandchildren Roberto Gonzalez, Paul Gordon, Jr., Marlaina Gordon, Douglas Gordon, Jr., Angela Breese and Anthony Ribiero; three great grandchildren Aiden Gordon, Robert Breese, Jr. and Tyler Gordon Breese and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Douglas Gordon and brother of the late Margaret Quinn, Ruth Conley and Eileen Gaudette.

A funeral Mass will be held in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Tuesday, May 29, at 10:30am followed by burial in Melrose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ward’s name to either Castle Island Association, 1514 Columbia Road, South Boston, MA 02127 or My Brother’s Keeper, PO Box 338, Easton, MA 02356.
