WESTFIELD ~ Anthony “Tony” Galanis, 80, of Westfield and a former resident of Springfield, Chicopee and West Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on December 28, 1937, a beloved son of the late George and Theresa (Koukakis) Galanis. He was raised in Springfield, attended local schools and received a certificate as a Registered Barber. He served his country in the United States Air Force and attained the rank of Airman Second Class. He later worked for the former Third National Bank, was a Crossing Guard for the Springfield School Department, worked at T.J. Sport House in Agawam and was also a driver for Hulmes Transportation. He was a quiet man who enjoyed watching movies, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 24 years, Marie P. (Abbott) Galanis who was Called Home on March 10, 2001. He leaves his beloved son, Thomas A. Galanis and his wife, Kelly, of Westfield; his cherished sister, Mary Canavan of Agawam; his cherished brother-in-law, Michael Abbott of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. His funeral will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, followed by a Funeral Service at 10 a.m. in Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. His Burial with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Funeral Service at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA 01109. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. His family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Springfield Unit, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104. “May His Memory Be Eternal”.
