Antonio “Tony” Payan, age 91 of Ventura, died on March 6, 2018 at his residence in Houston, Texas.
Mr Payan was born in Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles on March 28, 1926 and was a 76 year resident of Ventura. His final 15 years he lived in Houston, Texas with his wife Maria. He was a retired Civil Service employee from the US Naval Air Station Point Mugu, former Ventura County Firefighter, and a World War II veteran with the US Navy.
He taught us all through his example how to be a loving husband, a compassionate father, a kind friend, and a true Christian. We will treasure the memories of his goofy sayings, his love of dancing and music. He was active in coaching all sports, umpiring baseball, and an avid sports fan for the local high schools and little leagues, no matter the sport.
He was preceded in death by his parents Manuel Mesa Payan and Francisca Jurado Payan, brothers Lorenzo, Nabor, Manuel, Guadalupe, Peter. Sisters Bertha Martinez, Victoria De La O, and Virginia Corralejo. Son Edward Charles, and daughter Delores “Lola” Barrios.
He is survived by his caring and loving wife of 46 years, Maria Adela, Sons Tommy Payan of Oxnard, California, Dr. Jose Payan of Cypress, Texas and Luis Payan of Houston, Texas. Daughters Victoria Martinez of Oxnard,Ca. Olivia Lerma, Roberta Payan, and Evelyn Payan all of Ventura, California. Sisters Eloise Solis and Elvira Ruiz both from Santa Paula, Ca and Juliana Payan of Ventura, California; 21 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours Tuesday March 13, 2018 from 5 to 8pm in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street Ventura, where a Most Holy Rosary will be recited at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday March 14, 2018 at 10am in San Buenaventura Roman Catholic Mission, Main Street Ventura. Interment with Military Honors will immediately follow in Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.
