Maria P. (Souto) Pereira, age 87, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at St Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. She was the beloved wife of the late Luis F. Pereira who died in 1966.
Born in St Faial, Azores, Portugal on November 5, 1930, she was a loving daughter of the late Joao and Anna (Dutra) Souto.
Maria moved to the United States in 1968, first settling in Taunton. She later lived in California and for the past forty-six years had made her home in New Bedford.
Prior to retiring, Mrs. Pereira had worked as a laborer for the Paulding Manufacturing Company. She was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in New Bedford, and enjoyed spending time with her family and knitting.
She is survived by her dear son Luis A. Pereira of Westport. She was the dear sister of Ilda Silva of Taunton, Albert Souto of Taunton, Lourdes Dinitz of Taunton, Gilberta Escobar of Oregon, and the late Maria, Angelina and Jose.
At her request, all services will be held privately and visiting hours have been omitted.
