Obituary

Patricia A. "Pat" McDermott, 80, of Hyde Park and Dedham, passed away after being diagnosed with metastatic melanoma in April of 2017. At the time of her death, she was under the care of her daughter Susan with the assistance from the staff of Good Shepherd Community Hospice, Newton, MA. She resided in her daughter's loving home where she remained happy, comfortable and loved until her death. She was surrounded by her loving family when she so peacefully got her wings on February 19, 2018. She was the beloved wife of Leonard "Lenny" J. McDermott, Sr. (deceased).

Patricia was born and raised in Mattapan, married and moved to Hyde Park and lived in the same home for 50 years until her husband's passing when her health began to decline and she relocated to her daughter Susan's home in Dedham where she enjoyed the remaining ten years of her life.

She attended Hyde Park High School, married at the young age of 18 and began to raise a family. Family was everything to Patricia. She remained a devoted wife and homemaker for her entire life. Her children and grandchildren were her most precious gift and were a continued source of strength, support and pride.

She was the devoted mother of Susan M. McDermott of Dedham, Leonard J. McDermott, Jr, and his wife Cassandra (Wright) McDermott of Hingham and the cherished ''Nana" to Alison, Connor and Riley McDermott, all of Hingham and her granddogs, Teddy of Hingham and Mali of Dedham.

Pat was the eldest daughter of Agnes (Ryan) Rabbitt and James J. Rabbitt, both now deceased of Mattapan and Hyde Park. She is survived by two siblings, her brother, Joseph E. Rabbitt and her sister, Sheila A. Dowd, both of Falmouth.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no visiting hours. A funeral mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of her Life will be held at St. Pius X Church, 101 Wolcott Road, Milton, MA at 10 am on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment will follow in Brookdale Cemetery, 86 Brookdale Avenue, Dedham, MA. A reception will follow immediately thereafter at the American Legion Post #18, 155 Eastern Avenue, Dedham, MA.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Pat's memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA or the charity of your choice.
