Edward E. Carriveau

CHICOPEE – Edward E. Carriveau, 89, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, passed away on February 13, 2018. Born at home on August 25, 1928 to the late Alphonse E. and Laura (Goulet) Carriveau, Edward was a lifelong Aldenville resident. He was a graduate of Chicopee High School and later attended Western New England College. Edward served his country in the United States Marine Corps at the end of World War II during the occupation, and attained the rank of Corporal. He was a member of the American Legion Post 337 in Aldenville. For many years Edward worked at National Blank Book (later Avery-Dennison) in Holyoke, and was a member of the Society of Industrial Engineers. He retired from Avery as the Assistant Comptroller in 1990. Edward was a practical problem solver. During his retirement he was known to tinker with numerous projects, and many appreciated his advice. Edward enjoyed quiet times; he was an enthusiastic collector of coins and stamps, but above all cherished spending time with family. Edward was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church where he was a member of the League of the Sacred Heart. He leaves his beloved wife Claire B. (Dupuis) Carriveau. They were married on October 1, 1949 at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 68 years together. He also leaves his three loving sons, Mark E. Carriveau and his wife, Cecilia, of Chicopee, Paul R. Carriveau and his wife, Judith, of Easthampton, and Peter C. Carriveau and his wife, Amber, of Monmouth, Maine; five cherished grandchildren, Michael Carriveau and his wife, Jessica, and Andrew, Daniel, Isaac and Alice Carriveau; and his dear brother, Robert Carriveau of Homosassa, Florida. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Armand and Ronald; his half-brother, Harvey Gagnon; and by his six sisters, Anita, Florence, Lorraine, Doris, Leona, and Elaine.
His Funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, February 21, 2018 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial with United States Marine Corps Military Honors will follow the Mass at Saint Patrick Cemetery, 168 Fuller Road, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The funeral home parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
