Obituary

Nancy J. (Van Blarcom) Jenkins, 88, of Fall River, formerly of Assonet and Westport, MA passed peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Adams House, Fall River, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was the wife of Robert L. Jenkins.

Born in Fall River, she was daughter of the late Gilbert and Gladys (McCowan) Van Blarcom.

Nancy attended the Lincoln School in Providence and received a degree in Interior Design from Garland Junior College, Boston. Mrs. Jenkins raised her family in Assonet, MA and in Tiverton, RI during the summer. .

Prior to retirement, she and her husband owned and operated Leonard's Antiques in Seekonk. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved to Westport MA and Naples, Florida. She was well-known in the world of antiques and attended many auctions. Mrs. Jenkins was a lifelong member of the United Church of Assonet, the Tuesday Club, the Acoaxet Club of Westport, a past President of the Junior League of Fall River and board member of the Adams House. She was an active member of the Tiverton Yacht Club where she was scorekeeper for the “Candy Class” sailboat race committee. She enjoyed sailing, as well as sewing, knitting, golf, travel and her pets, especially her beloved dog “Herbie.” She was a great mentor, the “rock” and “guiding light” of her family. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Including her husband, survivors include a son: Douglas R. Jenkins and wife Georgia of Natick, MA; a daughter: Robin Jenkins Furze and husband Brian Furze of Tiverton, RI; daughter-in-law Kristin Jenkins of Barrington, RI, nine grandchildren; a great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends.

She was mother of the late Jeffrey B. Jenkins and sister of the late Edith Barrowclough Pinch.

A Celebration of Life to which relatives and friends are invited will be held on Friday, June 1, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Church of Assonet, 9 N. Main St., Assonet, MA.

The family would like to thank the Adams House and Beacon Hospice for the wonderful care and support received.
