Ann M. "Neatcie" (Murphy) Fenton

SPRINGFIELD – Ann M. “Neatcie” (Murphy) Fenton, 90, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Friday, February 9, 2018. She passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving son, Jerry, and her family. She was born in Springfield on January 19, 1928, a beloved daughter of the late Philip F. and Anna M. (Sheehan) Murphy. She was raised on Massasoit Street in the North End section of Springfield, graduated from Sacred Heart Grammar School and Sacred Heart High School, both in Springfield and had lived in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield for most of her life. She was employed as a telephone operator at New England Telephone in Springfield. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Gerald J. “Jerry” Fenton who was Called Home on December 12, 2004. They were married on June 21, 1952 at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 52 years of happiness together. She leaves her devoted son, Gerald J. “Jerry” Fenton, Jr. of Springfield; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Fenton and Murphy families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her three dear sisters, Marjorie M. Fenton and her husband Patrick “Joe” Fenton, Rita M. Tighe and her husband, Harry, and Mary C. Walsh and her husband, Albert; her dear sister-in-law, Margaret Solitario and her husband, John; and her three dear brothers-in-law, Thomas “Toby” Fenton and his wife, Erma, Joseph Fenton who was Killed in Action while serving in World War II, and Andrew Fenton and his wife, Mary. Her family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff of Beacon Hospice, most especially Samantha and Pam, for their kind and compassionate care of Ann. Her Funeral will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA 01129. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. For those who prefer, her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Sacred Heart Church Renovation Fund, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
