Roger L. and Barbara A. (Fallon) Bergeron

CHICOPEE – Roger L. Bergeron, 88, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, January 20, 2018. He passed into Eternal Life at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family, his wonderful caregivers and his fellow comrades-at-arms. His beloved wife, Barbara A. (Fallon) Bergeron, 86, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. Roger was born at home on Grape Street in Chicopee Center on January 17, 1930, a beloved son of the late Paul M. and Antoinette (Lebeau) Bergeron. He was raised in Chicopee, was a lifelong resident and lived in Fairview since 1957. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and attained the rank of Airman First Class. Roger was employed as a brick mason and had worked for Piquette & Stebbins in Chicopee and later for Marois Construction in South Hadley. Active in his Catholic faith, he was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee where he also served as a weekly counter. He was an active member of the Fairview Council 4044 Knights of Columbus Council in Chicopee where he was an endeared and dedicated volunteer at the annual Thanksgiving Day Dinners and Family Picnics, their monthly spaghetti suppers, and their weekly bingo nights. The Council purchased the former Big Y Supermarket on Memorial Drive in the late 1970’s and Roger was honored in 2013 for his many years of dedicated service to the Council. Roger served on the Board of Directors of the Home Association of the Council for many years and was the go-to person for building maintenance. Additionally, he was a member of the Bishop Joseph F. Maguire Assembly 2670 of the Knights of Columbus. Barbara was born in Holyoke on April 21, 1931, a beloved daughter of the late Edward P. Fallon and Rhe Etta A. (Cuske) Fallon. She was raised in Holyoke, graduated from Holyoke High School and lived in Holyoke and Aldenville until moving to Fairview in 1957. Barbara furthered her education and graduated from the former Sisters of Providence School of Nursing. She became licensed as a Registered Nurse and worked as a private duty nurse for several nursing homes and hospitals. Barbara was last employed as a Public Health Nurse for the City of Chicopee Health Department. Barbara was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee where she served her parish as a Eucharistic Minister, was a member of the Saint Anne’s Sodality Guild and a weekly counter. She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose in Chicopee. Barbara was a loving homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection. Roger and Barbara are now reunited in the Heavenly Kingdom. They were married on May 16, 1953 at Holy Cross Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 64 years of happiness together. They leave their four devoted children, Paula Hedge and her husband, Charles, of Oviedo, FL, Roger Bergeron and his wife, Sylvie, and Stephen Bergeron, all of Chicopee and Pamela Cuming and her husband, John, of Cambridge; their five cherished grandchildren whom they adored, Nicolas Hedge, Stephanie and Sean Bergeron, Matthew Bergeron and Samantha Cuming; Roger’s dear sister, Marcella Moran of Chicopee and Maine; and his dear brother-in-law, Fernando Pouliot of Chicopee; In addition, Barbara leaves her dear sister, Rhe Etta Plante and her husband, Richard, of Acton; her dear sisters-in-law, Marie L. Fallon of Port St. Lucie, FL; and Norma Joniec of Agawam; and their many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Bergeron and Fallon families. In addition to their beloved parents, they were also predeceased by their loving daughter-in-law, Ann Marie (Wodecki) Bergeron; Roger’s loving step-mother, Oglore M. (Tetreault) Bergeron; his two dear sisters, Therese Robert and her husband, Roger, and Fernande Pouliot. Barbara was predeceased by her dear sister, Mary Loftus and her husband, Robert; and her two dear brothers, James and Joseph Fallon. Their funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, February 7, 2018 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Their burials will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Roger will be accorded United States Air Force Military Honors by the Westover Air Reserve Base Honor Guard. Their family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
