Paul D. Fitzpatrick
1/17/2018

Paul D. Fitzpatrick, age 55 of Canton, formerly of Cape Cod, passed away January 17th after a lengthy illness with his family by his side. Paul, the youngest child of Arthur and Joan (MacEachern), was born in Medford, Massachusetts. When Paul was a year old his family moved to Buffalo, NY and lived there for the next eleven years. When Paul was in junior high his family moved to central Massachusetts, eventually ending up on Cape Cod where he graduated from Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School. After high school Paul explored many trades from mason tending, to color mixing at Colonial Candle until he moved to West Virginia to learn the printing business with his brother Stephen. Paul eventually left West Virginia, moving to western NY where he met his wife Ellen. Paul continued work in the printing business for many years until the opportunity presented itself to manage Hyannis Package Store and later, Cotuit Liquors, where he worked until he retired.

Paul was an amazing father whose love for his daughters was evident by the sparkle in his eye whenever he spoke of Sarah or Molly. The highlight of Paul’s day was a phone call, snapchat or visit from his girls. He shared his insight and knowledge with them in a gentle, thoughtful manner which was one of Paul’s wonderful qualities. In 2016 Paul was fortunate to travel across the country with his daughter Sarah exploring the many national parks. Paul loved nature and being outside. He enjoyed the birds and made sure the feeders were always full. He was especially fond of his cats and enjoyed the antics and entertainment they provided. An avid sports fan, football being his favorite, Paul shared his enthusiasm for the Patriots and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame with his father and brothers. He also shared his love for the Red Sox with his “favorite and handsome” Uncle Bob. Paul’s life long appreciation of music began with his older siblings’ Beatles albums when he was in elementary school. His true passion was for punk music. He sang in a punk band and was an avid follower of the Cape, Boston, and LA scene.

Paul leaves behind his beloved daughters, Sarah and Molly. He was the brother of Karen and Kate, and was predeceased by siblings Kevin, Stephen, and Jeanne. He was the youngest son of the late Arthur K. And Joanne M. Fitzpatrick. Paul was the much loved uncle of seven nieces and nephews: Jenny, Prema, Krishna, Martin, Lela, Stephen, and Annie; and great-uncle of Amanda, Morgen, Brynn, Marley, Finn, and Simone.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton on Friday, January 26th at 10:30 am. Visiting hours omitted; burial private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Honor the Earth Foundation; PO Box 63, Callaway, MN 56521. Honor the Earth is an organization with the goal of creating awareness and support for Native American Environmental issues, primarily the excessive consumption of our natural resources and the movement towards renewable energy. Ignited by the protests at Standing Rock, and further increased by his trip out west, Paul had a passion for the plight of the Native Americans, and spent time over the last couple of years educating himself on Native American history.
