Joyce E. (Plasse) McCarthy

WEST BROOKFIELD – Joyce E. (Plasse) McCarthy, 69, of West Brookfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, January 15, 2018. She passed into Eternal Life at Loomis House Skilled Nursing Center in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and devoted caregivers. She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on April 19, 1948, a beloved daughter of the late Herve L. and Edna (Wild) Plasse. She was raised in Chicopee and graduated from Holy Name High School in Chicopee. She continued her education and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Our Lady of the Elms College. She was employed by the City of Chicopee for 33 years as a kindergarten teacher and had last worked at the Bowe School in Chicopee, retiring in 2003. She had lived in Pittsfield for a short time before returning to Chicopee and, following her retirement, she moved to Lake Wickaboag in West Brookfield where she lived the remainder of her life. She enjoyed traveling but her greatest joy was spending time at the lake house in West Brookfield. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Robert E. McCarthy who was Called Home on January 17, 2010. They were married on April 17, 1971 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 38 years of happiness together. She leaves her loving brother, Herve Plasse, Jr. and his wife, June, of Chicopee; her dear brother-in-law, Daniel McCarthy and his wife, Evelyn, of Chicopee; her dear sister-in-law, Grace Stierle of Agawam; her six cherished nieces, Helen James and her husband, John, Jeanne Goodsell and her husband, Robert, Debra Woishnis and her husband, David, Lynn Roy and her husband, Michael, Sarah Plasse and her husband, Joseph Florek, and Amy Plasse; her cherished nephew, David McCarthy and his wife, Laura; and her many dear cousins, friends an extended members of the McCarthy and Plasse families. In addition to her beloved parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her dear brother-in-law, Robert Stierle; her dear sister-in-law, Helen McCarthy; and her cherished nephew, Robert “RT” Stierle. Her Funeral will be held on Friday morning, January 19, 2018 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
