Mary T. Murphy (Folan) age 91 of Canton passed away January 11th. Born in Boston, she was raised in Readville and attended St. Anne’s School in Readville and Nazareth High School in S. Boston. During her sophomore year of high school she was the City of Boston Spelling B Champ. After graduation she worked for the railroad which allowed her to travel extensively along the East Coast. She lived in Brighton before moving to Canton in 1954. She worked as a Payroll Clerk for the Mass Hospital School in Canton for many years before retiring in 1995. Mary also was a swimming and diving official for both high school and college swim meets in New England and volunteered for over 15 years at St. John’s School in Canton while her children were students at the school. After retiring she enjoyed spending time with her family, taking care of her grandchildren, traveling and she was an avid reader.
Beloved wife of the late Paul B. Mother of Thomas R. Murphy of PA, Paul B. Murphy and his wife Jeanne of ME, Michael J. Murphy and his wife Kelly of CA, Roy C. Murphy and his wife Jill of Attleboro, Patricia K. Fisher of Bellingham and M. Theresa Leahy and her husband Charles of Concord. Sister of the late John and Thomas Folan. Grandmother of Julie Kilcoyne, Douglas Fisher, Lauren Murphy, Paul Murphy, Robert Leahy, Garrett Leahy, Madeline Leahy, Erin Murphy, William Murphy, Tara Murphy, Declan Murphy and Nora Murphy. Great grandmother of Benjamin and Adelyne Kilcoyne. Funeral Mass at St. Gerard Majella Church Canton Monday morning at 11 am. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Monday morning prior t the mass from 9:00 to 10:30 am. Burial Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the St. John School Foundation Box 604 Canton, MA 02021. | |||||
