Jeanne M. (Lafleur) Dumais

CHICOPEE - Jeanne M. (Lafleur) Dumais, 85, known as “Meme” to all who loved her, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. She passed into Eternal Life at her home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home in Chicopee on April 25, 1932, a beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Edouardina (Duprat) Lafleur. She attended the former Mount Carmel Elementary School, Kirby School and Chicopee High School. She dedicated her life to her family as a wonderful homemaker. She tended to the family farm and spent countless hours leading the local Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H Youth Clubs. She was one of the first female Cub Scout Pack Leaders and was also a Den Mother. She opened her home to numerous members of the Association, the Fresh Aire Fund and a Japanese foreign exchange student over the years. She always managed to find a place to stay and a bite to eat for anyone who entered her home. She also made room for countless animals on the Pendleton Avenue farm. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a former communicant of the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church and currently a communicant of Saint Anne Church, both in Chicopee. Above all, Jeanne loved spending time with her beloved family and her many dear friends. She leaves her beloved husband and soul mate of 67 years, Omer H. Dumais; her six loving children, Omer H. Dumais, Jr. and his wife, Pamela, of Tampa, FL, David A. Dumais and his wife, Elaine, Dennis H. Dumais, and Linda J. Dumais, all of Chicopee, and Cindy J. Dumais-Holubowich and her husband, Mark Holubowich, and Joseph A. Dumais and his wife, Karen, all of Granby; her 11 cherished grandchildren, Denise, Daniel, Micky, Donald, Kelly, Tony, Dylan, Jessica, Carly, Taylor and Brandie; her three cherished great-granddaughters, Peyton, Hadleigh and McKenzie; her brother, Harvey Lafleur and his wife, her close friend, Margie, of Chicopee; her brother-in-law, Raymond Dumais of Chicopee; her sister-in-law, Jeanne Lafleur of Chicopee; her two godchildren, Virginia Dunphy and JoAnne Lafleur; and her many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Dumais and Lafleur families. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her three brothers, Paul Lafleur and his wife, Alice, Russell Lafleur and his wife, Doris, and Roger A. Lafleur, Sr.; and her two sisters-in-law, Edna Weston and her husband, Bob, and Theresa Bockhaus and her husband, Arthur. Her family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday morning, January 13, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Because of Jeanne’s limitless love of children and her selfless generosity, her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children Springfield Unit, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
