Maureen E. (Senior) Wester, 77, of Salem, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the NSMC / Salem Hospital following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Richard T. Wester, with whom she had recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.

Born in Leicester and raised in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late George T. and Marion H. (Mc Cauliff) Senior. She had been employed for over 25 years at GTE Sylvania in Salem and later in Danvers. Maureen’s passion was for Service Dog Project of Ipswich. The organization breeds , raises and trains Great Danes which later become mobility service dogs. She kept track of every dog there, watching them as they graduated into top notch helpers for their owners.

The eldest of eleven siblings, she was devoted to her family. Maureen enjoyed following family photos and events on Facebook and doing word puzzles. She loved knitting baby sweaters for family and friends as well as making prayer shawls for the MGH North Cancer Center.

In addition to her husband, Richard, she is survived by her sons, Richard O. Wester and his wife Sue of Holliston and their son Richard J., Ronald T. Wester and his wife Alice of Ledyard, CT and their daughter, Sarah Lazzaro and husband John and their daughter Lucy and their son, Eric Wester and his wife Meredith, Thomas E. Wester of Newburyport and his children, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Thure and Nathan Wester, and her daughter Karen A. Wester of Salem. She also leaves her sisters and brothers, Kathleen Wells of Ashby, John Senior of Putnam, CT, Margaret Lamson of Brookfield, William Senior of Auburn, Paul Senior of Worcester, Nancy Ellen Senior of Worcester, Ann Germain of West Brookfield, Maribeth Bromage of Dudley, Sharon Hope of Worcester, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant sister Mary.

Relatives and friends are invited to her calling hours on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [ Route 114 / 1-A ] Salem.
