Susan was born in Worcester, MA, daughter of the late Philip J. and Merilyn G. (Anderson) Mulcahy. She grew up in Worcester and Shrewsbury, on both shores of Lake Quinsigamond where she loved the activities and sunsets of the lake. Susan graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1967 and The Worcester Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing in 1970. She was passionate about her calling to be a nurse and worked for 44 years in this profession, retiring from the Cardiac Care Unit at Memorial Hospital just three years ago. Susan also worked in the family business of Sunset Beach on Lake Quinsigamond in Shrewsbury welcoming busloads of children from the Shrewsbury Parks and Rec. and clubs throughout central Mass and Boston area to experience the lake and nature. Susan was a tireless advocate for nurses and patients, having served as secretary, treasurer, and member of the STAT team and awards committee for the Mass Nurses Association (MNA). She was a member and had served as VP for the Central Mass Labor council. She was a member of many groups including of Salem Covenant Church and the Lake Quinsigamond Water Shed Association. Susan provided her daughter Sara the opportunity to participate in team figure skating, bringing her to practices and traveling to national and world championships in Italy, Finland and Switzerland, encouraging and enjoying her competitions. She enjoyed going on trips with her family and friends to many places. Some of her favorite annual trips were York Beach in Maine, Daytona Beach in Florida, and Attitash in New Hampshire. Susan was always ready to help. Her generosity was both genuine and infectious. Susan’s granddaughters were the brightest lights in her life. Nothing filled her with more pure happiness than spending time with her three little best friends. One of her favorite things to do was to bring them to the “Fun-O-Grandma” arcade at Short Sands Beach in York, Maine. From daily lunch dates, to playing outside and swimming, reading books and painting nails, or sneaking them plenty of candy and ice cream, she truly was the epitome of what an amazing Grandmother should be. The love between her and “her girls” is a love that will last forever.
