Balsamo, Salvatore A. of Marco Island, FL formerly of Canton, Dover and Dorchester passed away December 28th surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Dorchester he attended Boston Technical High School and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was proud of his Italian heritage and learned many lessons from his immigrant parents. They included the importance of family, the value of hard work and the responsibility of helping others in need. He taught those values to his children and created a unique family culture in his company.


Sal Balsamo was principal owner, founder and Chairman of the Board of TAC Worldwide Companies (TAC). TAC was the largest privately held company of its kind in the United States which specialized in providing qualified temporary and contract professionals to companies in the United States and 23 countries in North America, Europe and Southeast Asia.

He held leadership positions with various professional organizations: President of the National Association of Temporary Staffing Services, President of the National Technical Services Association (NTSA), President of the Massachusetts Association of Staffing Services, Trustee and Board Member of Caritas Norwood Hospital, Trustee and Board Member of Curry College, Board Member and regional Vice President of the New England area of The National Italian American Foundation, National Leadership Committee member of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame.

Sal received numerous awards which recognized his leadership and community involvement: Inducted into the order of Saint Michael The Archangel by the Massachusetts Association of Italian American Police Officers, 1996 Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Category Services, The Pirandello Lyceum’s “I Migliori” Award, Honorary Degree from Curry College, Honorary Degree from Southern New England School of Law, Industry Leadership Award from the National Technical Services Association, Inducted into the ASA Leadership Hall of Fame, Staffing Legend Award from the Massachusetts Association of Staffing Services, Cardinal Cushing Service Award, The Beacon Award from The Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce, the City of Newton built the Salvatore A. Balsamo Millennium Park at Newton City Hall in honor of his generosity and contributions to the City of Newton, the Cor Vitae “Heart of Life” Award from the American Heart Association, The Legionnaire Award presented to Sal and his wife, Yvonne, from the Boston’s Renaissance Lodge (Order of the Sons of Italy in America), the Distinguished Humanitarian Service Award from the Massachusetts Association of Italian American Police Officers, the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Massachusetts Chapter of The National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame, the 2003 Ellis Island Medal of Honor Award sponsored by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations Foundation, Inc., the 4th level of The National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame Museum in Chicago was named The Salvatore A. Balsamo Rooftop Terrace, inducted into the Italian American Executives Wall of Fame in Illinois.

Mr. Balsamo was the Founder and Trustee of the Balsamo Memorial Charitable Foundation, a non-profit organization that existed for the sole purpose of conducting fundraising events on behalf of worthwhile charities that served the needs of children and the elderly.

He was very active within the community and had a long history of supporting service and philanthropic organizations which included: The American Heart Association, Catholic Charities of Greater Boston (Director), Catholic Charities Sunset Point Children’s Camp, Boston Pops, Easter Seals, Inner City Scholarship Fund, Preparing Youth for Industry Program, The Archdiocese of Boston Catholic Schools Foundation, The Rodman Ride for Kids, WEEI 590 Fund, WGBH Channel 2 Auction and Habitat for Humanity.

Mr. Balsamo was a distinguished business leader and an outstanding humanitarian.

Beloved husband of Yvonne (Mollomo). Loving son of Antonino and Rosalia Balsamo. Father of Anthony J. Balsamo and his wife Mary of Naples, FL, Linda M. Wirta and her husband Bill of Canton, and Vicki C. Balsamo and her wife Mindy Thompson of Newton. Grandfather of Anthony V. Balsamo and his wife Meghan, Vinnie M. Balsamo and his wife Maureen, Nicole L. Nielsen and her husband John, Paul S. and Nina J. Wirta, and Jake A. Thompson. Great grandfather of Torey, Kyla, Isabella, Sienna, Presley and Harlow Balsamo and Cecilia Nielsen. Brother of Rosalie Monahan and her husband Joseph of Canton and the late Catherine Campagna and her husband Robert, Rosario Balsamo, and Maria Dearborn and her husband Raymond. Brother in law of Joseph Mollomo and his partner Mary Kream of Walpole, Deborah Mollomo of Quincy and Bertha Balsamo of Lakeville. Godfather of Randy Monahan and Jeanne Massaro. Also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Visiting hours at St. John the Evangelist Church 700 Washington St. Canton Tuesday 4-8 pm. Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church, Canton Wednesday morning 10:30. Burial Canton Corner Cemetery.
