Lorraine M. "Skippy" (Collis) Sherry

SPRINGFIELD – Lorraine M. “Skippy” (Collis) Sherry, 82, of the East Springfield section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Friday, December 8, 2017. She passed into Eternal Life at her home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on July 14, 1935, a beloved daughter of the late Cuthbert E. and Laura M. (Silva) Collis. She was raised in Springfield, attended Trade High School and was a lifelong resident of Springfield. She was employed for many years at the Smith & Wesson Company in Springfield and retired in 2003. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a faithful communicant of the former Saint Mary Church, now Mary, Mother of Hope Church in East Springfield. She served her parish in many capacities and was a Eucharistic Minister, a Senior Altar Server, a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine staff member and a member of the Women’s Guild. On September 8, 2013, for her many years of dedicated CCD service to her parish, she was awarded the prestigious Pope Pius X Medal from the Diocese of Springfield. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. The absolute joy of her life was being a doting grandmother who always attended her grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Julio M. Sherry. They were married on January 3, 1955 at the former Saint Mary Church in East Springfield and were blessed with over 62 years of happiness together. She also leaves her devoted daughter and caregiver, Laurie L. Dupuis and her husband, Mike, of Springfield; her son, Paul A. Sherry and his wife, Cheryl, of Amherst; her four cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Michael Dupuis and his wife, Bridget, and Matthew Dupuis and his fiancée, Megan Campion, all of Springfield, Kristin Smith and her husband, Calvin, and Ashley Miller and her husband, Nathan, all of Amherst; her cherished great-grandson, Logan Smith; her “great-fur grandbabies”, Rocket and Tony; her dear brother-in-law, Allen Jourdain of Chicopee; her two dear sisters-in-law, Katherine Sherry of West Springfield and Carol Sherry of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended members of the Sherry and Collis families. Her family would like to thank Paula Picard from Baystate Hospice for her amazing care and support during this difficult time. Her funeral will be held on Friday morning, December 15, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, East Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to Mary, Mother of Hope Church Confraternity of Christian Doctrine Program, c/o Lee Lyons, 840 Page Boulevard, Springfield, MA 01104.
