William J. "Bill" McCourt

CHICOPEE – William J. “Bill” McCourt, 77, of the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Somerville, Massachusetts on December 13, 1939, a son of the late Francis G. and Veronica M. (Hogan) McCourt. He was raised in Chicopee and lived in South Hadley for many years before moving back to Chicopee in 2010. He was employed for many years as a salesman for New England Liquors and Liberty Liquors. During his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and truly enjoyed socializing with the guys at the Dunkin Donuts on Memorial Drive in Chicopee. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Diane M. (Lafontaine) McCourt. They were married on October 31, 1987 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby and were blessed with 30 years of happiness together. Besides his wife, he leaves his two loving children, William J. McCourt, Jr. of Casper, WY and Donna M. Lusignan of Belchertown; his two cherished grandchildren, Megan Minassian and her husband, Hagop and Spencer Lusignan; his dear step-daughter, Laura Crowley and her step-son, Matthew Crowley; his dear brother, Thomas McCourt and his wife, Fumi, of Pennsylvania; his two dear sisters-in-law, Lois McCourt of Plymouth and Yvonne Claire McCourt of Granby; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and numerous friends. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his cherished grandson, Eric M. McCourt who was Called Home on July 15, 2013; and his dear brothers, Joseph McCourt and Francis McCourt. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will be private at the convenience of his family. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Springfield Unit, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
