Eileen M. Barrera (O’Connor) age 86 of Canton passed away October 28th at home surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Dorchester, she graduated from St. Peter and Paul High School in S. Boston and St. Margaret’s School of Nursing. After graduating from Nursing School, she worked as a Floor Nurse at the Carney Hospital for 3 years and then went on to be the Nursing Supervisor for 2 years before taking a break from her job to raise her family. After raising her children she went back to work in her husband Sam’s office at the Carney hospital in 1980 until retiring in 2004. She has lived in Canton since 1959 where she was a member of the Canton Nurse’s Guild, and an active parishioner, Eucharistic Minister and active member of the CYO at St. John the Evangelist Church. She and her husband were the President Couple of St. John’s School Association 1974-1975.
Beloved wife for 61 years of Dr. Sam Barrera. Mother of John P. Barrera and his wife Deverie of E. Sandwich, Kathleen G. McNeil and her husband Dr. Stephen of Canton, Thomas M. Barrera and his wife Elizabeth of Canton, Paul S. Barrera and his wife Teresa of Charleston, SC, William K. Barrera and his wife Elizabeth of Franklin, Marie A. Barrera of Canton and Mark A. Barrera and his wife Kristin of Plainville. Sister of John P. O’Connor of Tolland, CT and the late Kevin O'Connor. Sister in law of Ann O’Connor of Canton. Also survived by 28 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Thursday 4-8 pm. Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church Canton Friday morning at 10:30. Burial Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
